  • Pat Allen, vice chair, FSA and former Managing Director, Abel Alarm Company
    With over 45 years’ service at Abel Alarm Company Ltd, Pat is a well-known and highly respected figure in the Fire and Security Systems sector. His responsibilities as Director covered management and administration teams, overseeing Abel branch operations for quality assurance, conformity, health and safety. In addition also directed operations at Communication and Monitoring Centre (CMC) in ARC and RVRC functions During his career Pat played an instrumental role as Chair of the employer group for the development of the Fire, Emergency & Security Systems (FESS) apprenticeship Level 3 standard. He also served as Chair and currently Vice-Chair of the Fire & Security Association, a specialist group of the ECA. He is a member of the NPCC Security Systems Group Committee, and sat on a number of BSI Committees over the years, currently sitting on WG/1 BSI Committee. Pat says "Today I am actively involved in the development of FESS apprenticeships. The Fire and Security industries are fast growing, with use of new technologies and increasing external scrutiny on individual competence and training. The FESS apprenticeship provides a high quality qualification which was developed by a wide group of employers to ensure that its content meets the needs of the industry. " As a relatively new concept for the fire and security sector, Pat is providing ongoing support in this area, assisting with the roll-out of more approved NET End Point Assessment centres and focusing on how to help employers and training providers to work together more effectively.
